A few years back, I had the honor of first meeting, and then seeing annually, the wrestlers from the IWF. Over the years I would look forward to their visits to sister station WCTC AM, whenever they were in town. This year the IWF celebrates their 25th year with an action-packed, adrenaline-charged live event on Saturday, October 8th at 7 pm at North Arlington High School. This year’s event will benefit the Michael Robert Cammett Jr. Memorial foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization named after “Golden Boy” Michael Cammett, North Arlington High School Class of 2015, IWF Hall of Fame class of 2021, and IWF Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient. At the time of his passing, Robert was a student of the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at Rutgers, having completed his first year and eager to start his second year. He was only 24 years old.
Quoting event Host and NJ Broadcaster Hall of famer Bert Baron, “Michael Cammett was an amazing athlete and an even better person; October 8th will be a celebration of his life and legacy, and I am honored to be a part of this special IWF event.”
Since 1998, the award-winning IWF has produced events throughout the area benefitting the American Cancer Society, Semper Fi & America’s Fund, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tomorrows Children’s Fund, Twin Towers Orphan Fund, American Red Cross, United Way, Special Olympics New Jersey, Hayden’s Heart Inc., Nutley Policemen and Firefighter’s Benevolent Associations, High School athletic and academic programs in Middletown, New Providence, North Arlington, Nutley, Verona, and West Orange, and of course the Michael Robert Cammett Jr. Memorial Foundation.
