Keeping Babies Dry and Healthy
I recently learned that one in three families in the United States struggles to provide enough diapers to keep their baby or toddler dry, clean, and healthy. It’s been many years since I had to buy diapers for my own children–I had kids very young, and in fact today I have a granddaughter that is long out of diapers already–she’s 8! So I do have vague memories of having to buy diapers for a newborn and a toddler, and getting wipes, and formula, and trying to budget that along with the needs of my eldest child and buy groceries each week.
I went online and found that today, a 185 count box of size 2 diapers (for a 12-18 lb baby) was $54; so a person earning minimum wage would have to work over 4 hours to buy just that box of diapers.
That’s where the Central Jersey Diaper Bank comes in. Central Jersey Diaper Bank is a program of the Anshe Emeth Community Development Corporation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that serves all residents of Middlesex County regardless of race, religion, gender, or ethnicity, and are the only dedicated diaper bank in Middlesex County providing diapers, wipes, formula, and other baby essentials to struggling families.
