Wayback Wednesday: Gordon Lightfoot
This week marked the 82nd birthday of Gordon Lightfoot, the Canadian folksinger who went on to become an international star. He helped define the folk-pop sound of the 1960’s, and went on in the 70’s to have many huge hits, including “Sundown”, “Carefree Highway”, “The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald”…and this gem from 1970.
“If You Could Read My Mind” deals with the breakup of his marriage, and is one of his most popular songs. Here’s Gordon’s performance of it on the “Midnight Special” TV show in 1974. Happy Birthday and many more Gordon Lightfoot!
