Wayback Wednesday: Mick Fleetwood
June 24th is the 73rd birthday of Mick Fleetwood…the Fleetwood in Fleetwood Mac. The drummer and co-founder of one of the biggest selling groups in Rock history. Mick was born in 1947 in Redruth, Cornwall, England, and spent many childhood years living in Egypt and Norway, as his father served in the Royal Air Force. He returned to London at the age of 15, and later formed the first version of Fleetwood Mac, with John McVie, Peter Green and 2 others.
However, the 6’ 6’’ Mick moved to the U.S. in 1974, and invited Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks into the band. Fleetwood Mac’s greatest success followed, with albums like Rumours. They continue touring today. Here’s an amazing live performance of “Rhiannon” on TV’s Midnight Special. You don’t get to see much of Mick, but there’s a lot of Stevie Nicks, which is always a good thing. Happy 73rd, Mick Fleetwood!
