WMTR marks a  tragic anniversary on this Wayback Wednesday. Late on the night of December 8, 1980, John Lennon was shot to death outside his Manhattan apartment by Marc David Chapman. Many of us got the first word of the murder on ABC Monday Night Football when it was announced by Howard Cosell. But many others didn’t find out until the morning of December 9th. Here’s the coverage of John’s death on NBC’s Today show.

John Lennon’s music and legacy will live on.
