Wayback Wednesday: Cher
Happy Birthday to the seemingly ageless Cher! Born Cherilyn Sarkisian on May 20, 1946 in El Centro, California, Cher
marks her 74th birthday. She began her 6 decade career in 1965 as one half of the husband and wife duo Sonny and Cher, hitting it big with ”I Got You Babe”. Cher began her solo career simultaneously, with her first million seller in early 1966”Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)”. In the 1970’s she became a huge TV star with The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, which ran for 3 years.
After divorcing Sonny in 1975, she continued a solo career that included a big hit in the disco era with “Take Me Home”, and hits in the ‘80s like “If I Could Turn Back Time” and “I Found Someone”. In 1998, she had another big resurgence with the Dance-Pop hit, “Believe”. And let’s not forget she also won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Moonstruck.
On this Wayback Wednesday, it’s a 1999 live performance of Cher, with one of her most powerful songs…”The Way Of Love”, which reached #7 early in 1972, but isn’t heard too much anymore. Happy Birthday Cher!
