Wayback Wednesday: Brenda Lee
Today we salute Brenda Lee, celebrating a Milestone Birthday, as she turns 75! Born Brenda Lee Tarpley on December 11, 1944, the 4 foot 9 inch singer was nicknamed “Little Miss Dynamite”. She is the only woman in both the Rock N’Roll and Country Music Halls of Fame! Brenda is the top charting female vocalist of the 1960’s, with 47 charted hits during that decade. Her biggest selling single though, was recorded in 1958, when Brenda was just 13. Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree was a new song by Johnny Marks, who had written other big Christmas songs previously. The song didn’t sell well in 1958 or ’59, but over subsequent years this Classic song has sold over 5 million copies.
As we get ready to celebrate another Holiday, here’s Brenda performing this great song live on TV in 1984!
