Wayback Wednesday: Harry Harrison
This week, oldies fans throughout the New Jersey/New York area lost another legend, with the passing of longtime morning man Harry Harrison at the age of 89. He came to New York’s WMCA in 1959, and did the midday 10 am to 1 pm show, as one of that legendary station’s “Good Guys”. In 1968, he became New York’s Morning Mayor when he moved to 77 WABC, for the 6 to 10 am show, where he remained until a staff shakeup in 1979. Then he headed to WCBS-FM, where he continued playing the oldies until he was well into his 70’s. Harry’s upbeat personality was a part of the morning routine for millions of devoted listeners…and we here at WMTR’s Wayback Wednesday salute Harry with a video that was produced for the NY State Broadcasters Association, and posted courtesy of Rewound Radio.
