Wayback Wednesday: Ray Goulding
March 20th marks the birth anniversary of Ray Goulding, the deep voiced half of the great American comedy duo Bob and Ray. Born in 1922 in the Boston area, Ray met up with Bob on a Boston radio station in the 1940’s, and their career together spanned 5 decades. They usually satirized radio or TV shows or interviews, with off the wall dialogue, usually in a deadpan style, as if it were a serious broadcast. The result was non-stop hilarity. They worked nationally on the NBC, CBS and Mutual networks, and in New York locally on WINS in the 50’s, WHN in the 60’s, and afternoons on WOR from 1973 through ’76. Finally Bob and Ray appeared on NPR through 1987. They were very popular guests on Johnny Carson, David Letterman, and elsewhere.
This is a TV broadcast of one of their most famous bits…an interview with the head of the Slow Talkers of America. Enjoy!
