Robby Krieger on 50 Years of The Doors
The Doors‘ 50th anniversary celebrating continues with today’s (September 15) release of The Doors: The Singles, a two-CD set featuring 44 A- and B-sides, while a deluxe edition includes the 1973 The Best of the Doors compilation in Blu-ray audio.
The collection features plenty of favorites, including “Break On Through (To The Other Side),” “Light My Fire,” “People Are Strange,” “Riders On The Storm” and more — all of which have had a kind of enduring appeal that guitarist Robby Krieger tells us keeps him from feeling like it’s been 50 years since the group released its first singles and album:
“It feels like it wasn’t that long ago, but I don’t know why. Probably because…people have been talking about it ever since, so it’s not something you, like, forgot about for 50 years and then, uh oh, there it is…Although there was 20 or so years there from ’75 say to the early 90s when we didn’t play anything, we didn’t do anything together…”
The Doors have also released 50th anniversary editions of its self-titled debut album and of “Light My Fire” this year, while Krieger has been on the road playing Doors music with his own band.
