Is future Hall of Fame tight end Rob Gronkowski planning a Big Blue comeback?
Well, on Kay Adams’ Fan Duel program “Up and Adams” the former New England Patriots legend teased the idea that the only coach in the NFL who could coax him out of retirement was Giants Head Coach Brian Daboll.
“Who’s the best coach to get you out of retirement?” Adams asked.
“Umm, Brian Daboll.” Gronkowski uttered.
“Brian Daboll?” Adams asked in shock.
“Yeah,” Gronkowski said with a sly grin creeping over his face.
“I always believe having two tight ends makes the defense have the most difficult times,” Gronkowski reasoned.
Adams even tried to persuade Gronk to mention the Buffalo Bills, his hometown team, but nope, Gronk went right to the other New York team in red, white, and blue that actually calls Jersey home.
It is interesting that Gronkowski mentions Brian Daboll because they were together in New England when Daboll was Gronk’s tight ends coach from 2013-16. So there are obviously some strong ties and familiarity there.
RETIREMENT HISTORY
Gronkowski is no stranger to coming out of retirement.
He stepped away from the game for over a year in 2019 only to come back in 2020 when his Patriots teammate Tom Brady (you may have heard of him) went to Tampa Bay.
They won their fourth Super Bowl together as teammates later that year with the Bucs.
Gronk retired again in 2021 at the age of 32. He has been a color commentator and analyst with Fox Sports.
A return to the field with the Giants would be wild, to say the least. With Darrin Waller already in tow, adding Gronkowski, who had 802 yards receiving in his final season in Tampa, would create an incredible duel threat for quarterback Daniel Jones.
At 34 years old, Gronkowski is still young enough to give football another chance, if he wants to. If he is chomping at the bit to join the Giants, this will be a fascinating story to watch.
10 Best NFL Teams Going Into the 2023 Season
Football season is officially here. That’s cause to rejoice, in my book. I really don’t want to see summer end, but the good thing about it is that football is starting up. So, who are the best NFL teams going into the 2023 season?
Of course, everyone has their opinion. But, that opinion is often, or should be, based on fact. Certain teams going into the new season made good on their draft picks, while others kind of flubbed up. Also, many teams – such as the Kansas City Chiefs – have been tough to beat for years. So, of course, they’re going to be favorites.
Before I get into my personal picks for the 10 NFL teams going into the 2023 season, let’s talk about some of the weaker teams. What’s shocking is that the Los Angeles Rams are considered one of the weakest teams this year. I mean, we’re just two years out from their Super Bowl win. So, that’s somewhat surprising. Then again, it’s not surprising seeing their performance last season. I’m ranking them in the bottom five of NFL teams, because I just don’t see them having the players and coaching chemistry to go far this year. That said, they should still bask in the light of their Super Bowl victory.
Also at the bottom of the pack are the Arizona Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts. Both teams have struggled for years, and they just don’t seem to be making the right decisions on and off the field. Who knows, maybe these teams will turn it around and surprise us. But, right now, the Cardinals, Colts and Rams are looking rough.
So, who are the best NFL teams going into the 2023 season? Read on for my thoughts. Also, I’m a sports podcaster and host a podcast about the Detroit Lions called “The Squad with Anne Erickson.” Find my podcast here and reach out to me on socials here with your NFL thoughts.
