D.J. LeMahieu is coming to Somerset

Yankees infielder D.J. LeMahieu will make a rehab assignment with the Somerset Patriots, but it will happen with the Patriots on the road when they face the Reading Fightin' Phils on Tuesday, April 23.

LeMahieu was placed on the 10-day injured list on March 25 with a right foot contusion. The three-time All-Star (NL 2015, 2017 and AL 2019) has an MLB career .292 average with 1,697 hits, 864 runs, 122 home runs, 625 RBI and 93 stolen bases in 1,561 games.

Over the past two seasons, LeMahieu has struggled to stay on the field the past couple of years for the Yankees, playing in 125 games in 2022 and 136 games last year. His average has also tumbled the past two seasons. The Yankees would love to see LeMahieu return to someone close to the player he was when he won a batting title in 2020.

Spencer Jones Takes Flight

Meanwhile, the Yankees top prospect, outfielder Spencer Jones had himself a day on Sunday. The 6-foot-9 left handed slugger crushed his first homer of the year for Somerset, and finished with three hits in an 8-2 win over the Hartford Yard Goats at TD Bank Stadium.

Jones is hitting at .381 with a homer and three RBI this season in six games thus far. He spoke with play-by-play voice Steven Cusumano before Sunday' action.

The Somerset Patriots will visit the Reading Fightin' Phils this week, beginning Tuesday night at 6:30. Wednesday will be an early contest before night games resume in Reading the rest of the week.

As for the Bronx Bombers, they are hosting the Oakland A's this week at the Stadium.
