Billy Joel To Perform New Single At The Grammy Awards
Billy Joel is returning to the Grammy Awards for the first time in 30 years.
Per the Grammy’s official website, Joel will be performing his new single, “Turn The Lights Back On,” at the 2024 Grammy Awards, which will take place on Sunday, Feb. 4. In addition to The Piano Man, other artists confirmed to perform include Billie Eilish, Burna Boy, Dua Lipa, Luke Combs, Olivia Rodrigo and Travis Scott.
The last time Joel performed at the Grammy Awards was in 1994. He famously stopped during his performance of “River of Dreams” as a mini-protest against Grammy producers. Shortly before Joel’s performance, producers cut Frank Sinatra’s Grammy Legend Award speech short and went to commercial, thus, cutting off the Chairman of the Board’s speech.
Billy Joel and His New Single
Last week, Joel made the big announcement about his new single “Turn The Lights Back On.” The track is his first new single in decades and will be released on Feb. 1. “Turn The Lights Back On” is available for pre-order in digital and physical formats at BillyJoel.com. A brief preview can be heard below.
Joel previously teased his new song via a clip on TikTok on Dec. 20. The clip is from an undisclosed show. Joel addresses the crowd saying, “I have good news, I have bad news, I’ll give you the bad news first. We don’t have anything new to play for you. The good news is you don’t have to sit through something you have no idea what it is! Although … we got a little something we’re working on you might hear some time.”
The clip is captioned, “Billy has some good news and bad news. Stay tuned for more! – Team Joel.”

The Piano Man’s last studio album was 2001’s Fantasies and Delusions, which was made up of all classical compositions. His last non-classical album, of course, was 1993’s River of Dreams.
