Flying high, Jets see huge fanbase growth for 2023-2024 season
Despite a middling season that saw the New York Jets finish third in the AFC East, a new study shows that the teams’ popularity continued to rise until the very end.
Carried out by My Betting Sites Canada, a study analyzed the Instagram followers of all 32 NFL teams’ accounts. Researchers in the study compared the number of followers each team had in the week following last year’s Super Bowl, and January 2024. The numbers were then calculated to determine which teams had the greatest percent increase of fans for the season.
The numbers are in, and it was revealed that the New York Jets were the fourth most influential team for the season, with a 22.3% increase in followers. The team currently has an Instagram follower count of 1.1 million. In a fun twist, the New York Jets were also determined to be the fourth most-fined team in the NFL.

The study also concluded the Philadelphia Eagles saw the highest percent increase of 28%. This would be followed by the Miami Dolphins, and Kansas City Chiefs both seeing a 25% increase. Rounding out the top 5 was the Detroit Lions with a 21.1% increase.
The New York Giants finished in the middle of the pack, with a 5.6% increase in followers, making them the 21st most popular time in the NFL.
Finishing at the very bottom, actually losing 1.3% of their followers from last year, The Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The study did not determine if it was Tom Brady’s departure that led to fan disinterest.
“It is interesting to see which NFL teams have gained the most followers on social media this season as it speaks highly to the loyalty of teams’ fan bases. Fans are eager to follow their favorite teams to keep updated with team news and showcase their passion for the club, a spokesperson for My Betting Sites Canada said.
They concluded by saying, “However, it is also great to see new audiences tuning into the sport and taking an interest in the teams and players. Households may even see new family members joining them in front of the TV as the football season comes to a close.”
