Journey Has Its Eyes on Playing the Super Bowl
Journey playing the Super Bowl Halftime Show? An upcoming gig has at least one band member thinking big.
Journey is headlining the 2022 Concert for Legends on August 6 as part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s “Enshrinement Week” where it inducts the latest class of football greats. Keyboardist Jonathan Cain has high hopes that the gig could lead to an even larger stage.
Cain told Ultimate Classic Rock, “That could be a Super Bowl nod. I’m hoping they see us and go, ‘Wait a minute – Journey’s never played a Super Bowl!’ That’s right guys, we haven’t. I shouldn’t say it out loud, but I’m secretly hoping they might put two and two together and say, ‘Wait a minute, maybe Journey and the Super Bowl.'”
Whether Cain was really serious isn’t known, but he is looking forward to “Enshrinement Week.” He hopes to meet some iconic players, particularly those from the San Francisco 49ers, since Journey formed in SF.
“I just hope Joe Montana will be there in his gold jacket, and Steve Young and Jerry Rice and Ronnie Lott and all those guys from the Niners. They’re just part of my Bay Area experience,” said Cain.
Journey is kicking off their “2022 Freedom Tour” tomorrow (August 5) in Mount Pleasant, Mich. A full list of upcoming show dates can be found at JourneyMusic.com.
