See First Look Of Charlize Theron As Clea In ‘Doctor Strange 2’
Charlize Theron is entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe, making her debut in the mid-credits scene of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Six days after the debut of the Marvel film, Theron, 46 posted to Instagram the official first look of her as Clea. “Meet Clea,” Charlize wrote accompanying a close-up of her makeup and a still from the film.
Per Variety, Theron’s casting as Clea had been rumored for the last few weeks, but Theron’s post marks the first time the Oscar-winning actor has acknowledged she’s playing the character. In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Theron appears in full sorcerer regalia while Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) is walking down the street. She tells him that his multiverse hopping actions from the film have caused an “incursion” between universes. After ripping the fabric of reality to reveal a portal to the Dark Dimension (Clea’s home), she asks Strange to join her to repair the damage and he does.
In the Marvel comics, Clea is a fellow sorcerer with a lineage that traces directly to Dormammu, the overlord of the Dark Dimension who faced off with Strange in 2016’s Doctor Strange. In that film, Dormammu is represented by a giant floating head (also voiced by Cumberbatch). Eventually, Clea and Strange get married, but Clea must commute between the Dark Dimension and Strange’s reality.
The Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness post-credit scene strongly suggests that Theron and Cumberbatch will headline the next Doctor Strange movie.
Theron is next set to appear in the Netflix film The School for Good and Evil, directed by Paul Feig and co-starring Kerry Washington, Michelle Yeoh, Ben Kingsley, Rachel Bloom and Laurence Fishburne. Theron plays the School for Evil’s Lady Lesso while Yeoh and Washington play the School for Good Professors Anemone and Dovey, respectively. The film is an adaptation of Soman Chainani’s best-selling YA fantasy series of the same name.
