About

Sara Lee KesslerHometown and what you like best about it?
I’ve lived in Englewood, NJ for 35 years with my husband, Robert Miller. It’s been a great place for us to raise our two children, Rebecca and Jonathan. Englewood is a warm, welcoming community with beautiful homes, trees, parks, a lovely downtown and many cultural activities including Bergen Performing Arts Center. It’s also five minutes from the George Washington Bridge which makes it easy for me to commute to my radio studio in New York City. But, I also have fond memories of Morris Township where I lived from ages 4-12 and learned to sing, dance and ride horses.

What makes New Jersey a great place to live?
The Jersey Shore, beautiful parks, excellent restaurants, great nightlife and top talent born or groomed here including Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, Queen Latifah, Anne Hathaway, the Jonas Brothers and Martha Stewart.

If you weren’t living here but could live anywhere on earth, where would it be and why?
Probably Texas. I was born in Dallas and graduated from the University of Texas. I also began my TV news career in Austin and San Antonio and still have good friends in Texas. But, it would be so hard to leave New Jersey with my son living here.

Favorite Classic Oldies from the 50’s?
Let’s start with the 60s, anything by the Supremes like “Stop In the Name Of Love” and “Come See About Me.” Also, Beatles tunes like “Come Together,” “Here Comes The Sun” and “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.” From 1971, Joni Mitchell’s “Blue” album (“Carey” and “A Case Of You”) and Carole King’s “Tapestry” album (“I Feel The Earth Move” and “Natural Woman.”

Favorite actor?
It’s a tie between Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.

Favorite actress?
Meryl Streep, hands down, because she can play anyone convincingly. That’s why she has three Oscars and 21 Oscar nominations. You go, girl! I’d also run to see any movie starring Julia Roberts or Cate Blanchett.

Favorite TV show of all time?
Easy: “Saturday Night Live.” I’ve been watching it since it first debuted in 1975. I also love all the Chicago dramas: “Chicago Med,” “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago PD. TV shows from the past that I’ve loved include “24” with Kiefer Sutherland, “Downton Abbey,” “Six Feet Under” and “Mad Men.”

That’s tough because I love so many places I’ve visited. Give me an island, any island, and I’m happy (Barbados, Bahamas). My favorite countries to visit are Israel, Panama and the UK. My favorite American city is Austin, Texas where I went to college (Hook ’em Horns!}.

Favorite thing to do when you are not on the radio?
Photography, playing with my dog, gardening, reading, watching movies and cooking. I especially enjoy Sunday cookathons in which I make vast quantities of soup (chicken, butternut squash, vegetable, mushroom barley) and freeze for future use.
