Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell Switch Places on Kimmel and Fallon
Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell traded Late Night appearances last night, causing surprise, confusion and hilarity.
Ferrell went on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, while Reynolds took Ferrell’s slot on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Apparently, neither Fallon nor Kimmel were in on it, but the hosts played along and asked the questions intended for their proper guests to their replacements.
Ferrell attempted to promote Reynolds’ new Netflix action flick Red Notice, also starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Gal Gadot. Unfortunately, he had not seen “a stitch” of it. “I saw the billboards — they’re wearing tuxedos,” Ferrell said. “So you know it’s gonna be classy, right?”
He also talked about “wife” Blake Lively’s amazing cooking skills of oatmeal and nachos. He also showed off his “ripped” physique and French rap skills.
Meanwhile, Reynolds said Ferrell called him while he was walking his dog saying that he was running a little late and asked if he’d “jump in for him,” and Reynolds said, “Anything for you, Will. I’m in.” After Fallon asked just how late Ferrell would be, Reynolds looked down at his watch and says, “He’s gonna be here in about a half past… uh, never. Will’s not coming. Will’s not coming at all.”
Reynolds then jokingly said he’s just as disgusted as Fallon at Ferrell bailing, calling his type: “plastic, Playboy, Hollywood primadonnas that think they can just have a talk show appearance and just not show up! Will Ferrell — he loves late-night talk shows! He’s a late-night talk show slut! Who blows this off?”
After threatening Fallon to taste the back of his hand for asking questions about his movie Red Notice (out today), Reynolds insisted he ask the questions he had prepared for Ferrell. Fallon brought up the new musical adaptation of A Christmas Carol that Ferrell and Reynolds recently finished filming for Apple TV+ called Spirited, the second time the two hilarious men worked with each other.
Fallon quickly moved on to discuss Ferrell’s new Apple TV+ series with Paul Rudd and Kathryn Hahn, The Shrink Next Door. The new show, Reynolds claimed, is part of the Ant-Man universe. “It’s Ant-Man adjacent. He’s a shrink, right. He doesn’t shrink his body, per se, but he’s a psychiatrist so he does psychiatrist-y things,” Reynolds said. “Paul is the psychiatrist, he is the shrink in it, right? He lives next door and he minimizes himself in relationships — which is kind of like Ant-Man, right?”
