Bruce Springsteen Back on New Jersey Set of ‘Nebraska’ Album Biopic Starring Jeremy Allen White
White, decked out in era-appropriate clothes, will also film scenes in downtown Freehold and at the historic Carousel House. The supporting players flesh out the story. Johnny Cannizzaro plays Steven Van Zandt, with Gaby Hoffmann and Stephen Graham playing Springsteen’s parents. David Krumholtz steps in as record exec Al Teller, while Marc Maron portrays producer Chuck Plotkin.
This story follows music created in the most basic way — on a four-track tape recorder in a bedroom. The rough demos, intended for full band recording, hit such an emotional chord that they ended up becoming the final versions. Those bedroom recordings were just supposed to be rough drafts. But their genuine power couldn’t be matched, and what began as simple demos ended up making music history.
At The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, workers turned back time to restore the legendary club to its 1980s look. “We picked those two because they focus on the kids, and to me, the future of Asbury Park is based on the kids who are going to be making a difference,” said Caroline O’Toole, Stone Pony’s general manager.
Through memories of the past, audiences will see what molded a young musician’s journey. At 75, Springsteen still pops up unexpectedly, chatting with cast members and connecting with fans who gather around the sets.
