Jon Bon Jovi on Talking Woman From Jumping Off a Bridge
Jon Bon Jovi talked about his headline-making moment of humanity of convincing a woman not to jump from a bridge in Nashville.
The legendary frontman discussed this incredible incident during a sit-down with Stephen Colbert at the Montclair Film Festival over the weekend. According to the Asbury Park Press, JBJ said, “All I can say is mental health is real and this lady, she was completely coherent, had all of her wits and she had said to me, ‘Look at me, I’m in paper scrubs with no shoes, no phone, no money, nowhere to go, they let me walk out of the hospital.’ She said, ‘I am not suicidal or homicidal.’”
Bon Jovi happened to be filming a music video on the Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge in Nashville when that fateful moment occurred. He noted a woman who was part of the crew filming the music video pointed out the woman clinging to the bridge and about to jump. Bon Jovi also praised all of the local first responders for their work in saving this woman’s life, including a therapist who spoke with the woman on the scene. At the end of it all, Bon Jovi humbly said, “We’d all do the same” and ” … I was just there.”
Jon Bon Jovi Attends Performing Arts Center Dedication at His Former High School
In other Bon Jovi news: JBJ really proved you can go home on Tuesday (October 1) when he returned to Sayreville War Memorial High School in his hometown of Sayreville, NJ where the performing arts center was renamed after him.
Per WABC, JBJ spoke before a packed crowd at the performing arts center, which happened to be the site of his first live performance. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame singer famously enterered the school’s talent show and ended up coming in second. (Makes you wonder who was first!)
Bon Jovi’s appearance also featured him fielding questions from the students. He offered some sage advice and said, “Go full throttle in everything, pursue everything but take time to smell the roses. I still have the same record contract 40 years later. It’s all beyond my wildest wildest wildest dreams.”
On top of the performing arts center dedication, Bon Jovi donated a new recording studio to his former high school. It was also announced that he’ll be inducted into the Sayreville War Memorial High School Hall of Fame.
JBJ gifted his school a signed acoustic guitar, and the inscription read, “To SWMHS, who says you can’t go home!” Photos of the guitar were shared on Facebook by Sayreville War Memorial High School principal Richard K. Gluchowski. He wrote, in part, of the day, “I don’t usually post much, however, as the Principal of Sayreville War Memorial High School, it is with great pride today that we dedicate a music suite and performing arts center to our own class of 1980, Jon Bon Jovi … Thanks to everyone today for making this day so special!”
