Mick Fleetwood: ‘I Was The Party Animal in the Band…Stevie Was a Close Second.’
Leave it to Fleetwood Mac to still make headlines regarding their legendary drug use in the ’70s during the making of Rumours.
In a new interview with Classic Rock (as transcribed by Ultimate Classic Rock), Mick Fleetwood said, “There’s no doubt we were well equipped with the marching powder. That’s a well-worn fairy tale that gets more like a war story, that gets more and more aggrandized.”
Fleetwood continued, “…I’m not minimalizing the fact that we were definitely partaking in that lifestyle. But these weren’t a bunch of people crawling across the floor with green froth coming out of their mouths. We were working, you know?”
Interestingly, Fleetwood said the band’s drug use actually got worse following the completion and Rumours saying, “I remember not working for two years. I can’t even remember what I did. I was the party animal in the band, for sure. I would venture to say Stevie was a close second.”
Rumours celebrated its 44th anniversary yesterday (February 4.) It remains one of the most successful albums of all time and is one of nine studio albums ever to sell over 20 million copies in the U.S.
