VIDEO: ‘The Goldbergs’ Pay Tribute to Freddie Mercury
Coming on the heels of the opening weekend of the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, ABC’s The Goldbergs takes on the legend of the iconic Queen frontman and their classic hit “Bohemian Rhapsody” on this week’s episode airing Wednesday, November 7 at 8 PM EST/ 7 PM CST.
“This episode dives into how much the band inspired young musicians of my generation…but for me, this band has been a daily part of my life for as long as I can remember,” said Executive Producer Adam F. Goldberg.
This week’s episode sees Erica Goldberg (Hayley Orrantia) and her band The Dropouts decide to audition for Star Search only for egos to clash leading to the involvement of Barry Goldberg (Troy Gentile) and a slightly misguided rewrite of “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
“Queen was incredibly generous allowing us to feature their masterpiece ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ on my show, ” said Goldberg. “They even allowed us to write an absurd rap for Barry Goldberg to add into the song, as he mistakes the word “Rhapsody” for ‘Rap City.’ It’s incredibly rare for a legendary band to be so generous with their music and have a sense of humor about it. The way we cover the song on the show is truly my favorite moment in the entire series.”
That’s right…not “Rhapsody,” but “Rap City.”
You can see Barry express his frustrations with the Queen song to Erica in the clip below.
