Monmouth County Breaks Beach Revenue Record with $30 Million in 2024
Beach badge revenue in Monmouth County reached $30 million this year, breaking previous records with a 3.4% jump from 2023.
The shore area’s success went well beyond badge sales. Total tourism dollars for Monmouth and Ocean regions is expected to top last year’s $8.6 billion. Steady job numbers and gas prices, holding at $3.52, helped bring more people to the shore. Last year, 9.5 million beach visitors pumped $2.9 billion into local businesses, keeping 24,000 jobs afloat. State experts expect visitor spending to hit $51.4 billion in 2024, with 124.23 million people heading to the area.
“On behalf of my fellow Commissioners, I am thrilled to congratulate our municipalities for achieving record-breaking beach revenue this year,” said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Division of Tourism.
New Jersey tourism grew in 2023 as 120.5 million visitors spent $49.1 billion, up 8% from the year before. Greater Wildwoods brought in $374 million during the summer of 2024.
As fall rolls in, the area comes alive with Thompson Park Day, Ocean Grove’s Fall Harvest Festival, and Brookdale’s Haunted Theater. Complete tourism numbers for 2024 will be released by the New Jersey Division of Travel and Tourism next year.
