Alcohol-Free New Year’s Bash to Draw 10,000 Attendees in Morristown
This New Year’s Eve, Morristown, NJ turns into a celebration hot spot as 10,000 people come together for the alcohol-free First Night Morris County event, with performances spread across 23 locations throughout town.
Headlining the night is the B Street Band, known for nailing Springsteen’s songs. These veteran musicians have played everywhere from Atlantic City’s Hard Rock Casino Hotel to the historic Mauch Chunk Opera House, making them the longest-running tribute band around.
“Every year we have something new here in Morristown,” said First Night publicist Don Jay Smith.
Adding a touch of history to the 2024 celebration, performers will bring Alexander Hamilton and Elizabeth Schuyler to life. This nod to the past kicks off America’s 250th birthday, which the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission plans to celebrate across the country. The American Association for State and Local History helps with organizing and providing guidance for America’s birthday celebrations. These events mix fun with education, featuring music, movies, and activities that everyone can enjoy.
Fireworks will light up the sky twice on December 31st. An earlier show at 9 p.m. lets families with kids join the fun, while the midnight display caps off the night for late celebrators.
Tickets cost $30 per person, while a $95 family pack includes both in-person and streaming access.
First Night got its start in Boston back in the 1970s. The idea caught on quickly, and by the 1990s, 250 cities had jumped on board with this family-friendly celebration.
While fewer than 50 First Night events made it to 2019, and COVID-19 hit shortly after, Morris County’s party keeps going strong. New performers each year help keep people coming back. Each year, this alcohol-free celebration proves its staying power. Good attendance shows that people really appreciate this meaningful way to ring in the New Year, even during challenging times.
