California Hit By Another Winter Storm, Deepening The Already Historic Snowpack In Mountain Regions

MAMMOTH LAKES, CALIFORNIA – MARCH 10: Vehicles drive as snow falls during another winter storm in the Sierra Nevada mountains on March 10, 2023 in Mammoth Lakes, California. California’s Sierra Nevada mountains are being hit with heavy snowfall at higher elevations raising the huge snowpack levels even higher. Mountain communities still digging out from earlier storms at lower elevations are facing possible flooding due to rainfall runoff from the state’s 10th atmospheric river storm.

New Jersey is expected to see some snow and rain Monday night (March 13).  Weather conditions are expected to last until Tuesday (March 14). Several forecasters are predicting a nor'easter in certain parts of the Garden State where residents can be prepared to experience "several inches of snow, 1 to 2 inches of rain, coastal flooding, and winds that may gust as high as 50 to 60 mph at times," according to NJ Advance Media. Regional power outages are also to be expected across New Jersey and bordering eastern states.

According to NorthJersey.com, some New Jersey towns in the northern part of the state are expected to experience as little as one inch of snow, including Wayne. Others might get as much as eight inches, like West Milford. Both are located in Passaic County. Sussex County is looking at somewhere between three to six inches of snow.

As for South Jersey, rain is expected rather than snow Monday due to warmer air temperatures, NJ Advance Media reports.

As for snow accumulation in the double digits, areas north of New Jersey will be experiencing major winter storm conditions, "ranging from 6 to 12 inches in the Poconos region of northeastern Pennsylvania and 12 to 18 inches in parts of upstate New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont," AccuWeather forecasters report.

Despite snow coming in tonight and tomorrow, New Jersey has its second most mildest winter on record according to a Rutgers University report released Wednesday (March 7). Snowfall in New Jersey was also very low this year averaging about three inches which is 17 below normal. It is the second-lowest total on record since the winter of 1918-1919.
