Marie Dionne Warrick, better known as Dionne Warwick, was born on December 12, 1940. Hailing from East Orange, New Jersey Dionne Warwick has is one of the most charted female artists of all time. Warwick has cemented her place in history as not only the second most-charted female vocalist of all time but as one of the overall most charted signers ever! Like many other New Jersey residents, Warwick’s singing career began in her church in Newark.

It is no surprise that Warwick, who was raised by a family of gospel singers and RCA recording artists, made her way to the top of the charts so frequently. Passing on the musical tradition Warwick’s son, Damon Elliot, is a professional music producer. He has worked with Pink, Christina Aguilera, and has even written songs for his mother! Warwick herself has collaborated with many prominent artists including The Spinners, Johnny Mathis, and Elton John.

Warwick has also kept busy beyond the world of music. In 1969 Warwick hosted her first television special with guests Glen Campbell and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Just one year later she formed her own record label, Sonday records. In 2021 Dionne Warwick: Don’t Make Me Over, a documentary about her life and art had it’s initial release.

Warwick’s resume of accolades is long and impressive. She has won 6 Grammy Awards, sold over 100 million records, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and released 4 gold records! The 83 year old singer, actress, and television host is still as active as ever in 2023! Warwick released “Merry Mission” in 2023, a new song even after being in music for over 60 years, and is still actively touring.
