PTSD Awareness Month – Help Heal A Veteran
June 1, 2018 08:00 AM - June 30, 2018 05:00 PM EDT

June is PTSD Awareness Month. We can all help veterans affected by PTSD. Many times after a traumatic event, painful memories remain. The long term effects of the event fade over time for some. But for others, the memories, thoughts and feelings don’t go away. According to PTSD United, about 70 percent of adults in the U.S. have experienced a traumatic event in their life. Of these adults, 20 percent of them go onto develop PTSD.
Help Heal Veterans, formerly Help Hospitalized Veterans, is a non-profit organization that provides free therapeutic craft kits to hospitalized and home-bound veterans for generations. Kits are included with a wide variety of crafts and materials that meet each veteran’s specific needs.
These kits help struggling veterans improve motor skills, cognitive functioning, manage stress, and improve self-esteem. Most importantly, they help veterans take their minds out of the past and let them live more in the present. Help Heal Veterans has a clear message: to help our military, veterans and their families by assisting in their recovery from PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury and other injuries.
Help Heal Veterans strongly supports volunteering for America’s veterans. If you are interested in volunteering or making a donation, visit www.healvets.org.
Don’t just make a difference – make a friend.
