Throughout the month of May, we will shine a spotlight on mental health, encouraging open conversations, reducing stigma, and sharing resources to support the well-being of our listeners and communities.
- Established in 1949, Mental Health America launched Mental Health Awareness Month in 1949to increase understanding of mental health conditions and reduce stigma.
- Widespread impact: Nearly 1 in 5 U.S. adults—over 50 million people—experience a mentalhealth condition each year.
- Youth at risk: About 50% of all lifetime cases of mental illness begin by age 14, and 75% by age24, making early intervention critical.
- Stigma is a barrier: Fear of judgment prevents many from seeking help; campaigns duringMental Health Awareness Month encourage open conversations and normalize getting support.
