The Newark St. Patrick's Day Parade kicks off Friday, March 13. It will be dedicated to James "Jimmy" Cryan, honoring his legacy and spirit within the community. The 91st annual event steps off at 1 p.m. in downtown Newark.

Jack Doll will serve as Grand Marshal. Deputy Grand Marshals include Chase Hamilton, Sister Jane McKenna, SSJ, Monsignor William J. Reilly, and Frank Yorke. Sean Mannion gets the Honorary Deputy Grand Marshal role.

The parade committee described what the event means. "For 91 years, Newark has gathered to celebrate faith, family, heritage, and tradition — and this year will be bigger, louder, and more magical than ever," the committee said, per Patch.com.

The committee invited participation from all residents. "Whether you march, volunteer, or cheer from the sidelines, be part of the day that brings Newark together," the committee said.

New Jersey's oldest St. Patrick's Day celebration remains one of the most well-known Irish heritage celebrations in the region. Downtown Newark will host marchers, volunteers, and spectators on March 13.
