The Bergen County Zoo will keep its "Let It Glow! A Holiday Lantern Spectacular" open through Jan. 11. That gives two more weekends after other winter attractions in the area shut down. The lantern show runs Thursdays through Sundays, but the "Winter Wonderland" group of attractions closes after this weekend.
More than 40 themed lanterns fill the display. Animals are featured. The show started last month at the zoo in Paramus.
Visitors can see the lanterns. A train ride is available. Fire pits dot the grounds, and s'mores kits can be purchased at the gift shop for an additional fee — kosher options included.
The zoo sits at 216 Forest Ave. in Paramus. Hours and ticket information can be found on the Friends of Bergen County Zoo website.
The lantern show gives families a chance to experience holiday activities after most seasonal events end. January weekends will offer residents two more opportunities to visit before the display wraps up for good.
The decision to extend the show past the New Year comes as other winter attractions prepare to close their doors. This leaves the lantern spectacular as one of the few remaining seasonal activities in the area when January arrives, offering something different for those seeking outdoor entertainment during the colder months.
Ticket sales remain open. The show runs on a set schedule each week, so visitors have multiple chances to attend before the final weekend in mid-January rolls around.
