This New Jersey Route Is A Great Spring Road Trip
A springtime road trip just hits differently. When you look at the reasons to hop in the car and head out on the highway, late March through Memorial Day weekend can be one of the best times of year to embark on such a journey. Travel and Leisure recently highlighted the best spring drives in America, and a route through New Jersey made the list.
“Whether your preferred landscape is mountains, deserts, forests, plains, or coastal views, there’s a spring road trip in the U.S. for you,” they said.
If you have not booked an elaborate spring break vacation, all is not lost. The question, “What will we do with the kids home all week,” can be answered by a spontaneous road trip adventure. The expectations here are that you can roll down the windows, blast some of your favorite driving music, and take in the local scenery.
A Road Trip From New York City To Cape May, New Jersey
At roughly 160 miles, this route can only take you about three hours. However, you are going to want to stop quite a bit along the way. A route through the Holland Tunnel to Route 78 and I-95 will offer you plenty of sites to see.
Along the way, you can’t hit these highways and not think of (or listen to) the Boss. “Asbury Park is where Bruce Springsteen got his start, and other beach towns, long popular as summer getaways, include Belmar, Spring Lake, Point Pleasant, and towns on Long Beach Island, a narrow barrier island that parallels the coast,” Travel and Leisure says.
If you are a road trip enthusiast, you may be interested in some of the other routes that were named. Shenandoah National Park in Virginia and the drive from Miami to Key West, Florida, were the only other East Coast drives called out.
However, hitting the road down the West Coast is also an incredibly enjoyable way to familiarize myself with that area. Spring drives from Seattle to Newport, OR and Los Angeles to Big Bear Lake, CA were also recognized for being amazing road trips.
