New York Yankees Open Subway Series Round 2 with Victory
YANKEES 4 – METS 2
The Yankees took full advantage of a rare off-his-game Max Scherzer to beat back the Mets 4-2 at Yankee Stadium to open up the second round of the Subway Series. The victory marked the Yanks’ first two-game winning streak since July 28-30 when it won three straight against the Kansas City Royals.
“It’s a long season and we haven’t been playing the type of ball we want to. It’s time to get back to what we do,” slugger Aaron Judge said afterward.
Judge who struck out three times against Scherzer back in July when these two teams met at Citi Field, was 2-for-4 on Monday night including a solo home run in the third inning that catapulted the Yankees out to a 2-0 lead.

Andrew Benintendi drove in a pair in the Yankees’ victory. His first RBI came on a double to right, scoring Isiah-Kiner Falefa to make it 3-0. In the seventh inning, Benintendi put the game away when his RBI single scored Kiner-Falefa again with Scherzer running out of gas. The loss dropped Scherzer to 9-3 on the season; his ERA rose to 2.33.

On the flip side, Domingo German put forward one of his better outings of the season. He held the Mets to just two runs, one earned, over six-and-a-third innings of work to improve to 2-2 on the year. The only trouble he got into was in the top of the seventh inning when Daniel Voglebach hit a two-run homer into the bullpens in the right field.
