Coming Attraction: The Leonid Meteor Shower
There’s about to be a spectacular show high in the sky.
The Leonid meteor shower is coming up, bringing us a dazzling display of shooting stars. It happens when the Earth passes through the trail of dust shed from the comet Tempel-Tuttle.
Scientists say you can catch the Leonids starting Friday through the end of the month, with a peak in the late evening of November 16.
NASA Science revealed the Leonids are best viewed starting at about midnight and in areas well away from city or street lights.
Viewers on Earth may experience a Leonid storm just about every 33 years, or so.
