Rod Stewart, Elton John Still Aren’t Speaking After Recent Spat
Rod Stewart and Elton John were once very close friends, but a spat caused the two music icons to cease speaking to one another. Unfortunately, the legends have yet to make up.
Stewart said on the podcast How to Wow he tried to extend an olive branch by reaching out via email inviting John’s young sons over to his soccer pitch to play with his own young sons. However, Sir Elton didn’t respond to Sir Rod.
“Last time I emailed him I said, ‘I’ve got this football pitch, would you like the boys to come up?’ You know, cause they both love football. You don’t have to come, but if they want to come play on this they’re welcome. [He] never got back to me.”
The rift between Stewart and John dates back to an appearance Stewart made on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen back in March 2018. When he was asked what he thought about Sir Elton’s retirement tour, he said.”I did email her [Elton] and said, ‘What, again dear?’ And, I didn’t hear anything back. But talking about the retirement, I think I’ve never spoken about retirement, and if I do retire, I won’t make an announcement. I’ll just fade away. This whole big deal, ‘Oh, I’m going to retire!’, it stinks of selling tickets.”
In November 2019, Stewart said in an interview, “I do love Elton, only we’re not talking at the moment. We’ve had a spat, because I criticized his tour as being money-grabbing.”
John has yet to comment publicly about his rift with Stewart
