The New Jersey Task Force 1 was activated to assist with rescue and recovery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana as Hurricane Laura made landfall on Wednesday (August 26).
Hurricane Laura has caused catastrophic damage in Lousiana with an excess of 100 mph winds. It was one of the strongest to ever strike the United States.
"NJ-TF1 has been activated to assist with the rescue & recovery efforts resulting from the effects of #Hurricane Laura. The team is en route to the current staging area in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This will be the team's 7th deployment as a FEMA US&R Team. #ReadyNJ," NJOEM shared to Twitter.
NJ-TF1 is one of 28 federal FEMA Urban Search and Rescue teams in the country.
