Get Your Stimulus Payment Now Via IRS ‘Get My Payment’ App
There has been a lot of talk about how long it will take Americans to get their stimulus checks. And recently, there has been some controversy over how long the checks would be delayed because President Trump ordered that his name be printed on the checks (or if they would be delayed at all).
But if the discussion over that isn’t of interest to you, and you just want to receive your much-needed money, the IRS seems to have a solution. Today, the U.S. Treasury announced the “Get My Payment” web application. The free app allows taxpayers who filed their tax return in 2018 or 2019 but did not provide their banking information on either return to submit direct deposit information. If the I.R.S. has your direct deposit number from past tax filings, you don’t have to do anything, you should automatically get your check via direct deposit. The app will display on any desktop, phone or tablet, and does not need to be downloaded from an app store.
Once you provide your direct deposit information, you can get your “Economic Impact Payments” deposited directly in your bank account; you won’t have to worry about waiting for a check in the mail. Many Americans who provided the I.R.S. with their direct deposit information have already reported receiving their stimulus checks.
“We are pleased that more than 80 million Americans have already received their Economic Impact Payments by direct deposit in record time,” Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin said in a press statement. “The free ‘Get My Payment App’ will allow Americans who do not have their direct deposit information on file with the IRS to input it, track the status, and get their money fast.”
To track the status of your payment, you need to enter basic information in the “Get My Payment” app: your social security number, your date of birth, your mailing address and your adjusted gross income from your most recent tax return submitted: either 2019, or if you haven’t filed yet, for 2018. You also must provide the refund or amount owed from their latest filed tax return, the bank account type, account and routing numbers. It’s advised that you gather this information before you enter the portal.
