Flashback: Michael J Fox’s Epic Guitar Playing In ‘Back To The Future’
We don’t know why, but Universal Pictures’ official YouTube channel just posted Marty McFly’s legendary (and, quite literally, history-making) performance at the Enchantment Under The Sea dance, from 1955. Not that we need any excuse to re-watch one of the greatest segments in movie history.
In this epic scene from 1985’s Back To The Future, Michael J. Fox makes good use of his real-life six-string skills when his character, Marty McFly, joins the band at the dance after their guitarist hurts his hand. He accompanies them for “Earth Angel.” After that song — and after Marty’s existence is saved from a weird rip in the space-time continuum, the band asks him to stick around for another song, “something that really cooks!”
He then teaches the band “Johnny B. Goode” in real-time, and during the song, the guitarist is seen on the phone with his cousin, “Chuck.” “You know that new sound you’re lookin’ for? Well listen to this!”
The audience likes it until McFly goes too far with his guitar histrionics. “I guess you’re not ready for that,” McFly says. “But your kids are gonna love it!”
