February 27th marks Howard Hesseman’s 79th birthday. He’s best known as the hard rockin’ DJ Doctor Johnny Fever on WKRP in Cincinnati.

Hesseman actually prepared for the role on the show, which aired from 1978 through 1982, by working as a DJ for several months at a San Francisco radio station. In today’s Wayback Wednesday clip, the Doctor kicks off the station’s new format!
