Wayback Wednesday: Natalie Cole
February 6th is the birth anniversary of American singer, songwriter, and actress Natalie Cole. She was born in 1950 to legendary singer and jazz pianist Nat “King” Cole. She rose to stardom in the mid-1970’s with songs like “This Will Be”, “Inseparable”, and “Our Love”. In 1987 she did a successful cover of Bruce Springsteen’s song “Pink Cadillac”. Sadly, Natalie’s life was derailed by drug addiction, which she battled for years.
Natalie then began recording Standards, including many popularized by her father, who died in 1965. Her 1991 interactive duet with her father, “Unforgettable”, became a huge hit. Here’s Natalie performing that song live, with the filmed accompaniment of Nat King Cole. Unfortunately, Natalie died on New Year’s Eve, 2015 at the age of 65 due to congestive heart failure. But we’ll always have her great music. Watch and listen to this beauty!
