Wayback Wednesday: Donny and Marie Osmond
It was on January 16, 1976 that Donny and Marie Osmond’s TV show premiered on ABC-TV. The 2 most famous members of the Osmond family kicked off a weekly variety show that ran until January 1979. They were offered their own show, after ABC-TV president Fred Silverman saw them co-host a week of “The Mike Douglas Show”.
This after their series of popular remakes of oldies, including “I’m Leavin’ It All Up To You”, and “Make The Word Go Away”. Donny was 18 and Marie 16 when the show debuted, making them the youngest entertainers in TV history to host their own variety show.
Here are Donny and Marie putting their spin on the Righteous Brothers’ classic “Soul and Inspiration”.
