May 2nd is the birth anniversary of Lesley Gore. She was born in Brooklyn, but raised in Tenafly, NJ! And she was just a Junior in High School when Quincy Jones produced her first single, It’s My Party in 1963, which became #1.
She later worked as an actress, and, along with her brother wrote “Out Here On My Own” for the move “Fame”, which earned her an Academy Award nomination. Lesley also gave the great songwriter Marvin Hamlisch his first hit, with a song she recorded in ’63, but which only was released as a single in 1965.
Here from the movie “Ski Party” is Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows…watch for Lesley giving attention to bus passenger Dwayne Hickman of Dobie Gillis fame! A great song for the merry month of May from a much-missed
artist!
