April 25th is the birth anniversary of one of Rock N’ Roll’s greatest songwriters…Lyricist Jerry Leiber, one half of the team of Leiber and Stoller. Jerry was born in 1933, and died in 2011. Composer Mike Stoller is now 85.

Just a short list of the huge number of songs they wrote includes…Hound Dog, Kansas City, Love Potion #9, Yakety Yak, There Goes My Baby, Jailhouse Rock, Searchin’, and many many more. Leiber also teamed up with Phil Spector to write Spanish Harlem, and with Ben E. King on Stand By Me. Many of their biggest hits were by the “Clown Princes Of Rock N’ Roll”, The Coasters.

Here they are on Dick Clark’s Saturday night show doing “Charlie Brown”.
