Marvel's Iron Fist is the catalyst that will bring The Defenders series to the front lines. With that in mind, be sure to do the following things:
Watch all the Netflix Marvel Series' in order
I'm an idiot, so I made the mistake of not starting with Daredevil. I started with Jessica Jones being drawn in by the prospect of an evil version of David Tennant. But do this, if you haven't already: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, thennnn Iron Fist.
Beware of "The Hand"
The Hand plays a big part of most of these stories, so be sure to keep track of it all. And though The Hand's Madame Gao ends up proving to be a big piece of the series, Entertainment Weekly says that the crew that will be The Defenders will be working towards beating something more powerful than The Hand. Any guesses what?
You will have one character crossover through all four shows: Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson). She happens to be one of the best support systems, with her least involvement in Jessica Jones. She becomes a love interest for both Luke Cage and Matt Murdoch, and helps administer medical assistance throughout all four series (and also throws in a "Sweet Christmas" reference). Jeri Hogarth, the ballsy lawyer from Jessica Jones not only helps Danny Rand (Iron Fist) get his company back, but it also suggests that this is all happening at the same time to the fact that Joy hires Jessica to track the board members of Rand.
The Looming Avengers Question
Entertainment Weekly shares that "'The Incident' had a direct effect on the changing face of Hell’s Kitchen and on the rise of both Wilson Fisk and Daredevil, but by the time Iron Fist begins, the Avengers’ actions barely resonate." There's barely any mention of The Avengers Chitauri and the attack of New York in Iron Fist, but the universe does have some of the same general indicators that super-humans exist. I mean, come on, the man can summon an Iron Fist. And there was a mention of a YouTube video of "That Big Green Guy" in a Rand board meeting, and the psychologist at the mental institution who says after "The Incident" everyone thinks they have super powers.
There's A Lot More Information To Keep Track Of
Unlike some of the other series' out there, Iron Fist demands your attention, very much like Daredevil. Though the story of Daredevil and Jessica Jones are a lot more dark and pull you in, Iron Fist does lack a certain drive to keep watching, similar to the way that Luke Cage fell off after a certain pivotal moment in the series. So if you're going to watch it and REALLY matters to you, don't multi-task when watching it. At the very least, it will set us up for The Defenders... Or Luke Cage or Jessica Jones Season 2.
