Jimi Hendrix: Electric Church, a new documentary highlighting the guitar legend’s performance at the Second Atlanta International Pop Festival, will be premiering on Showtime September 4th, but fortunately, you won’t have to wait until then for a sneak peek for what’s in store.
Exclusive to RollingStone.com is Hendrix’s performance of “Purple Haze.” (Trailer for the documentary can be viewed below.)
(Fun fact: Hendrix’s performance at this festival stands as the largest American crowd he ever performed for in his all too short career.)
Jimi Hendrix: Electric Church will also feature interviews with Paul McCartney, Billy Cox, Mitch Mitchell, Steve Winwood, Rich Robinson, Kirk Hammett, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi. A 2CD and a 2LP set called Freedom: Jimi Hendrix Experience Atlanta Pop Festival will come out August 28th.
